Some of us were told when we came out that we would never amount to anything. Clearly those doubters weren't privy to the wide variety of queer career options depicted in mainstream and independent movies. If film history is any indicator, we may find ourselves traveling in perfectly professional circles as surgeons (Saving Face), defying stereotypes as florists (Imagine Me & You), drumming for a rock band (Prey for Rock & Roll), or mastering the fine art of exotic dancing (Bound, Showgirls).
Sure, one can always fall back on the tried-and-true gym teacher option (not that there's anything wrong with that), but shouldn't one have a Plan B in mind when it comes time for the inevitable knee-replacement surgery?
If you think that you're a cinematic career counselor in the making, match the character's profession to the film in which she appears.
