Drea
de Matteo, the former Sopranos actress now starring
on the NBC sitcom Joey, has come out as bisexual in a new
interview with UK newspaper Britain Sport Daily, revealing
that she occasionally hooks up with her female friends.
"I
love men and they're who I go out with," she said in the
interview, "but every now and then - well I can't say I've
never been with a woman."
De
Matteo is currently in a relationship with actor Tim Giblin, and
revealed in the interview that she also hopes to start a family
soon, but doesn't plan on getting married. "I can't imagine
ever spending more than seven years with someone," she told
the British newspaper, adding that she is fine with being a single
mother. "Look at Angelina Jolie. If she can do it, I can
do it."
With
this revelation, de Matteo joins a growing
number of actresses who have publicly acknowledged being attracted
to and sexually involved with women, while at the same time indicating
a preference for dating men.
De
Matteo won an Emmy last year for her role on The Sopranos;
besides Joey, she can currently be seen in the movie
Assault on Precinct 13. She also had a prominent role
in the indie lesbian-themed film Prey
for Rock 'n Roll.
