AND
BY "CHALLENGES", SHE MEANS "HOW TO GET A DATE
WHEN YOU'RE THE ONLY LESBIAN IN PINE VALLEY" Good
news for lesbian soap fans: Eden Riegel, who played All
My Children's lesbian sweetheart Bianca for over
four years before she left the show in early 2005, has just
signed a new contract to reprise her lesbian role beginning
with the October 11th episode. In discussing the news with
TV
Guide this week, Eden wouldn't divulge much about Bianca's
future storyline, or confirm whether she is still with Maggie
(Elizabeth Hendrickson), but says, "It's the kind of
story I'm very excited about" because "Bianca has
some challenges, heartache and new beginnings."
On
the other hand, Eden also says the baby-switch saga Bianca
was stuck with before she left the show was "wonderful",
because "with all the controversy about gay parents and
all that stuff, people were universally opposed to this lesbian
heroine being apart from her child." So clearly, Eden's
judgment is a little off. But she means well!
RUNNING WITH(OUT) LESBIANS
The trailer
for Running
with Scissors has been posted online, and not only
is there not even a hint of the movie's lesbian (or gay) content
in the trailer, but neither of the actresses romantically
involved with Annette Benning's character are even listed
among the cast. Or in the photos. Or anywhere on the website.
(Although they are included in the film's IMDb listing).
In
fact, the folks marketing Running with Scissors appear
to be trying their damndest to make you think this is a wacky
dysfunctional-family comedy, when anyone who has read the
book knows it's a funny but deeply disturbing portrait of
a young gay man and his deranged lesbian/bisexual mother.

But
I guess putting that in the trailer wouldn't exactly pull
in the crowds. All I can say is, unsuspecting middle Americans
are in for a big surprise at the theater!
A
DARK, CREEPY MOVIE ABOUT TEEN GIRLS WHO AREN'T BISEXUAL?
NOW THERE'S A TWIST!
Speaking of misleading marketing: many of you have written
in to ask whether there are any lesbian characters or
content in the upcoming movie The
Quiet--a dark drama starring Elisha Cuthbert,
Edie Falco, and Camilla Bell--because the poster and the
ads feature Cuthbert whispering provocatively about "secrets"
into the ear of another girl. The
answer is no, according to those I've asked who've seen
the movie--although it is directed by an out lesbian (Jamie
Babbitt) and features the object of many a lesbian's
crush (Elisha Cuthbert). But if we went by that criteria,
Angela
Robinson's Herbie Fully Loaded would be a
lesbian movie, too, since I've heard there are still some
lesbians who find Lindsay Lohan attractive (which I don't
understand, but never mind).
WELCOME TO THE SLAUGHTERHOUSE?
Out actress Heather
Matarazzo (Saved, Welcome to the Dollhouse)
is in negotiations to join Lauren German (A Walk to
Remember, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and Bijou Phillips
(Almost Famous) as the three lead characters
in the upcoming sequel to the hit horror film Hostel,
which earned $50 million domestically when it was released
earlier this year. The first film was about three men
who end up in a Slovakian hostel which serves as a front
for an organization specializing in torture. The sequel
will follow three women who, while studying abroad for
the summer, learn the grim truth behind the Slovakian
hostel and its international counterparts.
German will play a wealthy girl trying to figure out her
next step in life, Phillips her best friend, and Matarazzo
a "tag-along", which is horror-movie speak for
"first one to die".
