Patrice PikePATRICE PIKE: BISEXUAL ROCK STAR
There are several reasons to root for current Rock Star (NBC) contestant Patrice Pike--who pulled out all the stops to save herself from elimination this week--but here's another one: the 35-year-old rocker from Austin, TX, is openly bisexual. And unlike a lot of other singers who profess to love women, she actually dates them.

In a recent interview, Pike told the Austin Chronicle, that reporters and fans usually assume she's gay, and she never bothered to correct them until a lesbian reporter finally came out and asked her directly a few years ago. "I was dating a woman at the time and getting a lot of support from the gay community. But it was important to me at that moment to be clear and accurate about where I'm coming from. So I told her I was bisexual, and I could tell she was disappointed...I have always had wonderful, very satisfying relationships with men. But when I started dating a woman, I discovered that nobody wants you if you're bisexual."

After watching her performance of Radiohead's "My Iron Lung" earlier this week (watch it on youtube), all I can say: their loss.

ANOTHER LESBIAN STEREOTYPE
The new indie sex comedy film Another Gay Movie--a gay America Pie or Animal House, but not nearly as funny--includes a beer-chugging "bull dyke" lesbian chick-magnet named Muffler (Ashlie Atkinson), who refers to her lesbian lair as "The Maxi Pad." No, I'm not kidding.

When out gay director Todd Stephens was asked by Film Threat this week how lesbian audiences have reacted to this character, he responded, "It has been mixed. Some have been put off by the stereotypical nature of it, but some people want to party with her. It’s a movie where you just have to check political correctness at the door."

I couldn't agree with Todd more. I'm sick and tired of all the complex, nuanced lesbian characters that we see in movies today, especially in movies created by gay men. Like...well, there's...hmmm, I know there must be at least one...oh well, I'm sure I'll think of one later. But the point is, if there's anything American cinema needs more of, it's one-dimensional, stereotypical lesbians, and I'm grateful to this courageous director for bravely fighting the tide of oppressive political correctness with his beer-chugging Muffler. Bravo, Mr. Stephens! Bravo!

THE WITCH IS BACK!
Buffy comicWillow fans rejoice: Buffy's favorite lesbian sidekick is back in action. Not on TV, unfortunately, but in comic book form: Dark Horse comics announced at Comic-Con 2006 that Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon is writing a comic version of Season 8, scheduled to hit the market this October (but it may be as late as February '07).

The comic's storyline will pick up where the television series left off: the slayer army has organized, and the tide turns in favor of the good guys--but only for a short while, and then the bad guys get stronger, meaner and uglier. And from the looks of the new cover (pictured, left), Buffy also gets leaner. An anonymous source tells me that in the new season, Willow and Kennedy have broken up, Kennedy's now dating Faith, and Willow is currently taking Tony Robbins "Unleash the Power Within" seminar in a desperate attempt to resurrect Tara. But since the "anonymous source" is my second cousin in Kennebunkport, Maine, who owns all the Willow-Tara action figures, I'd say that info's iffy at best.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Bisexual singer Ani DiFranco is pregnant, with the baby due in February; she has a new album, Reprieve, due in August.

Jackie and Mimi are still fighting like crazy people on Bravo's Work Out, and we've got the recap to prove it.

Rosie O'Donnell's first guest when she joins The View on September 5th will be Jessica Simpson, who is reportedly grateful to Rosie for inviting her on the very popular Rosie O'Donnell Show when Jessica was just starting out. Now that Jessica's divorced, maybe Rosie can help her meet a nice girl, too.

We've received a lot of great entries for our Movie Poster Contest, and next Friday, August 4th, we'll unveil the 5 finalists for you to vote on. And while I don't want to give anything away, I do have to say, I never knew there were so many lesbian fans of Pretty Woman.

Last but not least, out actress Kristanna Loken has signed on for 10 episodes of The L Word, playing a single mom who meets Shane at a PTA meeting. No word on whether Loken's BloodRayne co-star Michelle Rodgriquez is coming along as her angry "roommate".

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. or read past installments here.
