Maile FlanaganIF A LESBIAN WINS AN EMMY AND THE CAMERA DOESN'T CUT TO ELLEN'S RESPONSE, DID IT REALLY HAPPEN?
By now, everyone knows that Ellen kept up her winning streak at this year's Daytime Emmys last Friday, but you may not know that another out lesbian won a Daytime Emmy last week, too: Maile Flanagan, who won Outstanding Performer in An Animated Program for the PBS children's program Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks (yes, that's really the name of the show).

Flanagan, who does theater in LA and has had roles in Phone Booth, The Station Agent, 61*, and Grey’s Anatomy, thanked her partner Lesa in her acceptance speech, and was promptly invited by Barbara to join The View "if that other lesbian doesn't work out."

CURL GIRLS BACK IN THE WATER?
Looks like Logo is moving ahead with more episodes of guilty-pleasure reality series Curl Girls. An AfterEllen.com reader found this new casting notice online: "An MTV Assoc Network is casting a new reality series Curl Girls in sunny Southern California. We are seeking outgoing & attractive Lesbians or Bisexuals between the ages of 21-35 who know how to work hard, play hard and surf hard (or want to learn)!...Surf's up!"

It always makes me laugh when people capitalize "Lesbians" and "Bisexuals", like we're from a different race or species. But if it means more decent lesbian programming--especially ones involving women in wetsuits--they can call us Klingons if they want!

Mary Cheney's memoirPRIMETIME MARY
The Vice President's openly gay daughter Mary Cheney was interviewed by Diane Sawyer on ABC's Primetime last night about her new memoir, Not That There's Anything Wrong With That...er, I mean, Now It's My Turn. In the interview, she talked about working on the 2004 campaign, coming out to her parents, and how she almost left her father's 2004 campaign because of the Republican Party's anti-gay policies. Earlier reports that Dick Cheney accidentally shot his daughter as she was leaving the ABC sound stage have since proven to be erroneous.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE...
Q Television appears to finally be throwing in the towel--according to an internal email leaked to the press, all remaining employees were let go this week because the fledgling gay TV network has run out of money.

NBC announced this week that it has officially picked up Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, the drama about a Saturday Night Live-type show which includes out actress Sarah Paulson playing a conservative Christian (yeah, that won't piss the off the Religious Right). The networks will announce their full 2006-2007 lineup beginning May 15th; we'll keep you posted!

May 15th is also when production starts on the second season of South of Nowhere, which debuts on The N in October. This season, Ashley and Spencer break up, Ashley gets pregnant after sleeping with Aidan, and a heartbroken Spencer kidnaps the baby and takes her to Canada...oh no, wait, that's the other lesbian drama--this is the fun one! There is some lesbian drama in store for the SON teens, though: according the show's latest press release, next season's plotlines include "Ashley's relationship with Spencer and the rift it has caused between Spencer and her mother Paula". I foresee an Ashley-Paula smackdown soon. Bring it on!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. or read past installments here.
