BECAUSE IT JUST WOULDN'T BE TOP MODEL IF SOMEONE WASN'T "THAT WAY"
LeslieA few readers have emailed me (thanks guys!) to let me know that current America's Next Top Model 6 contestant Leslie--a single Latina college student from Arizona--lists her sexual orientation as "bi" on her MySpace profile (warning: loud music starts playing). She also lists "strawberries and cream" and "books and reading" on her list of interests, which pretty much guarantees she won't be single for long.

Speaking of queer models, lesbian Project Runway contestant and former model Zulema elaborates on her experience on the show in a new interview with Bay Windows, saying that although she initially kept quiet about her sexual orientation, "once I got there on the show, [I thought] ‘Everyone here’s fucking gay! Why do I care anymore?’” But her sexual orientation never made it onto the show, says Zulema, because, "In order to make someone a villain, you can’t give them any endearing traits. And me being gay is something for people to root for, and they don’t want anyone to root for me.”

Whether Zulema really is as bitchy as she's portrayed, you do have to chuckle at the fact that being a lesbian is now seen as an "endearing" trait. As long as you don't try to adopt children or get married, that is.

AMELIE MAURESMO ON TOP
Out French player Amelie Mauresmo is the #1 women's tennis player in the world again this week. You can check her out for yourself in the Nasdaq-100 Open tournament in Miami this weekend.

For more fake but fun Amelie news, read "Martina Arrested after Trying to Maim Mauresmo", and "Denny's New Amelie Mauresmo Grand Slam Breakfast Flavored with Controversy". Because the day we can't find humor in French lesbian tennis players is the day...well, I don't know, but it's bad.

LINDSAY DOES DANTE
Thea Gill--better known as Lindsay from Queer as Folk--has joined the cast of here TV's gothic drama series Dante's Cove for its second season, which will air in the fall. Gill will play Diana Childs, "a mysterious newcomer to Dante’s Cove who will tangle with Grace (Tracy Scoggins) as revelations of their secret past threaten to change Dante’s Cove forever." No word yet on what Diana's secret is, but I'm hoping it's not a lesbian lover and two kids stashed away in Canada.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE BUS, STAYS ON THE BUS
Sara Gilbert (24, Roseanne), who most recently starred in the WB fiasco Twins, has been cast as a weary, seen-it-all reporter in the pilot for Girls on the Bus, an ABC ensemble comedy about a group of journalists doing campaign coverage. I know, it doesn't sound funny, but from the pilot script, it actually is (unlike, say, Twins).

DEGRASSI
The episode kicking off the lesbian storyline on the fifth season of the popular teen Canadian show Degrassi: The Next Generation finally airs in the states in April on The N. Don't get too excited, it's no South of Nowhere, but the lesbian storyline is pretty well written, and so far, neither of the girls has died of breast cancer. Yeah, the bar's pretty low these days...

IMAGINE ME ON DVD
You won't find it listed in any stores yet, but the DVD for the romantic lesbian comedy Imagine Me and You will be released in the U.S. on June 27th. Why all the fuss, you ask? Two words: Lena Headey.

DINAH SHORE
I'm headed off to Dinah Shore in Palm Springs next weekend, where AfterEllen.com is a sponsor. If you're attending, please be sure to stop by our table at the Wyndham pool parties and say hello. To find us in the crowd, just look for the tall, thin, charming blonde all the women are hitting on--that's my straight-but-not-narrow sister, Autumn, and yes, I hate her, but hey, free labor!

That's it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. or read past installments here.
