THE
MORE THINGS CHANGE, THE MORE GIRLS MAKE OUT IN HOT TUBS
A new season of MTV's The Real World debuts November
7th, and this one's set in Denver. Why do we care? We don't,
generally, because The Real World hasn't had an
out lesbian on it since 2002, and this season's no exception:
there's a gay guy, but apparently no lesbian, despite persistent
rumors to the contrary.
But
who needs lesbians when there are drunk straight (or bi-curious)
girls around? This leaked
footage shows Denver female housemates Brooke
and Jenn making out while completely ignoring male housemate
Ty's repeated attempts to join in. Here's a screencap, for
those who don't want to watch the clip:

Exploitive?
Yes. Exhibitionist? Yes. An obvious attempt by the show's
producers to drum up interest in a flagging franchise? Clearly.
But fun to watch anyway, and a little bit subversive? Yes
to that, too, and here's why: most make-out sessions initiated
by drunk female reality-show contestants are initiated primarily
to attract male attention. But these girls don't seem motivated
by the desire to impress Ty or any other guy--just by desire,
period. Well, desire and alcohol.
BUT
WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
Cynthia
Nixon's getting mixed-to-positive reviews
for her role in the Off Broadway revival of the classic
play "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie".
The
American version of the London lesbian play "The Marriage
Bed" opens in New York this week. The playwright discusses
her inspiration here.
Germany
recently saw its first lesbian wedding on primetime TV,
on nighttime soap Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love);
if you speak German, watch the wedding drama here,
or a whole bunch of clips of the lesbian couple here.
Poet
/ spoken word activist Alix Olson managed to cover Wal-Mart,
the Michigan Womyn's Festival, Subarus, and Catholic school
girls in her speech
at Penn State this week.
Ellen's
lending her voice to an animated seal on the Dawn
Saves Wildlife website to raise environmental awareness
for the oceans.
Pine
Valley's resident lesbian Bianca
made her return to All My Children this week. Stay
tuned!
A
gift for your inner teen lesbian: "I
Love Spashley" t-shirts!
This
week, Sara Gilbert (Twins, Roseanne) began a three-episode
arc on the new CBS sitcom The
Class. Unfortunately, she's playing the ex-lover
of one of the guys, not Lizzy Caplan--who will always be
Mean Girls' Janis Ian to me.
That's
it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment
of Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. or read past
installments here.
