ON THE OC: GOOGLE GONE WILD!
Fox is trotting out everyone and their brother to tell the press
that the Marissa-Alex storyline on The
O.C. isn't a sweeps stunt. "I think you'll
see the way it's handled is very character-driven and emotional,"
creator Josh Schwartz said a few months ago. "It is not done
for character exploitation.
This
week Olivia Wilde, who plays Alex, told Zap2It.com
that "People might have expected 'Girls Gone Wild,' kiss-in-the-hot-tub
type of thing, but what's going to be interesting is when people
realize that's not what we did. I hope they don't want that and
expect that, 'Oh, I want some crazy, hot lesbian scene.' It's not
like that. It's much more about Marissa discovering these feelings,
and Alex tentatively welcoming her into this, and then what happens
after is even more interesting."
If
that's true, someone clearly forgot to tell the Fox marketing department.
Anyone typing in the following search terms in Google will see paid
placements from Fox that are, well, a little less "emotional"
and a little more "girls gone wild:"

The
funny thing is, the Alex-Marissa storyline actually does
come across fairly character-driven and non-exploitive. But these
ads? Yeah, not so much.

of The O.C., check out our new OC
section with articles, recaps of the lesbian storyline, links
to Alex/Marissa fan sites, and "Alex + Marissa" t-shirts.)
FUN
WITH MARY KATE AND ASHLEY
Favorite
moment from last week's Saturday Night Live Weekend Update
segment: Amy Poehler revealed the "news" that the Olsen
Twins were going to live apart for the first time, then immediately
showed a photo of Angelina Jolie's face between the twins and commented
"Damn you Angelina Jolie! Is nothing sacred?!" Good times,
good times.
DVD
NEWS
Along
with Eulogy,
the 2002 indie movie Kiss the Bride about a dysfunctional
family reunion at a wedding is coming out on DVD
next Tuesday. Why do we care? Alyssa Milano plays a lesbian with
a nose ring (look for a review of the film on the site next week).
In
other DVD news, YesAsia.com
appears to be selling an all-region DVD of the Chinese lesbian movie
Butterfly
beginning tomorrow. The DVD has not yet been officially released
in the U.S. yet, so buyer beware!
AMC
UPDATE
Maggie
(Elizabeth Hendrickson) and Bianca (Eden Riegel) kissed this week
on On All My Children, then kissed again. With both actresses
leaving the show shortly, is BAM
finally going to happen? I'll put the answer in white text for those
who don't want to be spoiled: yes.
That's
it for this week! Check back next Friday for a new installment of
