Jackie needs someone to talk to so she calls her best friend, Erin. Sitting at a park picnic table, Jackie tells Erin about Sarah, her Palm Springs lady. “We played and played and played. I haven't laughed so hard and been so happy and comfortable in years. I spent time with this woman and she was a woman . She had it all.” Oh, she had it all, all right — a great house, money, and what else? Oh yeah: a husband and kids.
Jackie says about Mimi: “I think we have to take a new direction. She's taking her independence a little bit now, and I'm gonna take my independence now.”
Erin doesn't judge. Instead, she says: “Most people stay together because it's easy. But this is clearly not easy. I think you're secretly relieved.” We all are.
It's a new day at the gym. What's wrong with Zen? She's all down-in-the-dumpy. Zen mopes around the deck area, talking to Doug. “I want a husband and I want babies, but I don't want to be with the wrong guy,” Zen says. “I want the clean-cut good guy.”
And right on cue, Jackie saunters out wearing a pin-stripe suit and tie. Jackie says, “We need to focus on this [points to Zen's head], and that [points to her body] will come, because you're young, you're beautiful.”
Jackie says: “When one person here has a negative vibe going on, it really affects the whole team. And even though I can help and inspire Zen, I wonder why can't I do it in my own relationship?” Maybe because cheering up a friend is easier than changing your whole life? Just a guess.
Jesse's running a cardio boot camp. Where's the Peeler — isn't this his turf? In fact, where are Andre and Rebecca, for that matter? None of them have been around. Maybe they're out looking at real estate for Peeler's Palace of Pain and Day Spa?
“Boot camp is where I shine,” claims Jesse. His favorite expression is “Abs tight!” We know this because he says it over and over. Jesse paces in front of the group and begins a countdown:“Push ups, in three … in two … in one …” He sounds more like a Broadway choreographer: And five, six, seven, eight! Step, kick, kick, step, abs tight! Jackie stands to the side, observing. The class looks miserable, which she equates with a successful session. Hey, if misery equals success, no wonder she's been with Mimi for four years.
In the end, she gives Jesse a thumbs-up. He may suck as a dog sitter, but he runs a good boot camp. Jackie awards him permission to run a regular class. Peeler is going to be livid when he finds out. Where is our resident knucklehead?
Jackie wanders over to where Jody and Doug are working off those last two pounds. Jody says, “I hear you're looking for a new love, Jackie.” A new love. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I wish she'd sing a bit, but she's too out of breath. And hey, who told her Jackie was looking around? Jody presses: “A real love? If you're interested, I know someone.”
Jackie's mildly interested. “Yeah, hmm. What is she like?” she asks.
Jody says, “Kind of like you in a way.”
Jackie quips, “I don't like her already.” But never one to turn down an opportunity, Jackie admits: “It wouldn't be bad for me to make new friends that are gay, for sure. That's not a bad thing. All right, I'll go.”
