After their unsatisfying heart-to-heart, Jackie brings her mom to the gym so she can see her work. Look at me, Mom! Look what I can do! Tess is there for her second session. She's a trouper, considering she heaved in the bathroom last time.

Karen asks Tess about Jackie, “Do you find her intimidating?” Tess says no. Karen prods, “Would you admit it if you did?”

Jackie jumps in, “I'm being very, very good to Tess.” Just like when Jackie criticized Peeler in front of a client in Episode 1. Karen asks, “Do you stabilize her back, right there when she lies back? Because they always stabilize my back.” And just who are “they,” the ladies at Curves in downtown Dayton?

Later that afternoon, Karen goes with Jackie to a reproductive endocrinologist to discuss freezing a bunch of little Jackies. Jackie reveals she's 37 years old. Did we know that? I forget. The doctor shows them an ominous, live-birth chart that takes a nosedive right on the 37-year mark. Maybe he has a chart for every age and every consultation--you know, L.A. rent being so high and all.

To make the best Jackie omelet, the doctor explains that a small needle is passed through the vagina and into the ovary, where they “go follicle to follicle and take eggs out.” Fun! If everyone had to go through this to have a baby, the world wouldn't have a population problem.

Mom asks leadingly, “What happens to the embryos that aren't used?”

“They're not embryos that are frozen; they're eggs,” the doctor corrects her. Nice try, Mrs. Joseph Smith. When Jackie tells the doctor that her girlfriend is only 26 and might carry the baby, Mom looks positively ill.

Jackie tells us, “My mother will be fine if I have this child on my own, but she will not be fine if I have someone else carry my child. She will not be fine. I don't know what to do. I don't have a lot of time.”

All too soon, Karen's visit is at its end, and I'm sad to see her go. We'll miss her easygoing charm and delightful wit. The limo idles at the curb with the trunk open as Jackie and her mom say good-bye. Karen says, “If she chooses to freeze eggs and has a child someday, I will be right there for that child and for her as a new mom.” A tear rolls down her face. Jackie puts her on the plane crying, just like she said she would.

Back at home, Jackie sits on the edge of the tub in her bathroom, preparing to give herself the first of what will be many injections. “I really, really do not like needles. For me to inject myself with a needle is very, very creepy.” She grabs some skin from her belly, jabs the needle in with a loud “Ow!” and pulls it out. She sits there for a long moment, looking around at nothing.

Next week: Where have Erika Jolie and the rest of the gang been? Will Jesse give Nipples a chance? Will Mimi and Karen become pen pals? Will Peeler-cise sweep the nation? Tune in next week to find out.
