Emma Ashelford

After coming out to her mother, Marissa goes over to Alex's, soaked because of the rain (doesn't anyone own an umbrella?) and greets Alex with a full-on kiss, which is a welcome relief from their former pecks on the cheek:

MARISSA: I told her!
ALEX: You told who what?
MARISSA: My Mom. About us! I can't believe it, but I did.
ALEX: (looking slightly shocked) You er, told her?
MARISSA: I thought you would be happy.
ALEX: No, it just depends. Did you tell her to piss her off?
MARISSA: (moving over to her) Hey look, I told her so that this could be real (puts her hands on either side of Alex's head.) For us.
ALEX: Wow. (laughs) So, what happens now?
MARISSA: She is probably having a meltdown as we speak, so I can't go home.
ALEX: So stay here.
MARISSA: You sure?
ALEX: But first, let's get you out of these wet clothes. (They begin to kiss.)

The scene ends there, cutting to Ryan and Lindsay making out on Lindsay's bed.

Later on, Seth goes over to Alex's to ask for his job at The Bait Shop back, so he can buy his boat back. Alex, fully dressed (with scarf even), opens the door to Spiderman Seth with the greeting "You here to fight crime?" She agrees to give him his job, even though he was a terrible employee, cutely quoting the movie, yet again, with "great power comes great responsibility." As she goes to him an advance, Marissa, scantily glad in just a silk bathrobe, comes out of the bedroom, not knowing Seth is there.

MARISSA: Hey Alex, should I be getting dressed or are we going back to...(sees Seth)...bed?
SETH: Oh My God.
MARISSA: Oh My God.
ALEX: Oh My God.
SETH: (rubs his eyes) Let me get this straight. You broke up with me,
for Marissa?
ALEX: Do you want your money? (tries to get him to leave)
SETH: Hey, who better than a superhero understands secret identity?
Now hold on, just want to make sure I have the visual. (Marissa looks uncomfortable) Okay I got it, great, thank you. Hey listen, Alex. Thank you. Both of you. For everything, I mean, keep doing what you're doing, I like it.

When Seth and Ryan are on his boat in the living room, Seth tells Ryan about Marissa and Alex, who are "no longer welcome in the red states." They share the mental imagery for a moment.Ryan doesn't seem that bothered, just surprised, and their reactions are just made up of teenage hormones, rather than any disgust at the pairing.

Back at the Cooper-Nichol mansion, Marissa is packing her backs, when Julie comes in.

JULIE: You got a minute?
MARISSA: Not really.
JULIE: Well, I would like to talk to you. About your "friend" Alex.
MARISSA: I'm sure you would, Mom.
JULIE: Look, Marissa, I experimented too when I was your age. Albeit it involved a little Motley Cru and a lot of yager.
MARISSA: Woah. Way too much information.
JULIE: I'm just saying, that I understand that this is a phase, but, that I won't make a big deal about it if you don't.
MARISSA: Right. This way you avoid any public embarrassment. (continues to pack)
JULIE: Where are you going?
MARISSA: I'm moving out. You have my cell if Caleb kicks and you need help counting you cash.

And with that, she happily departs--leaving her mother, and all her pictures of her and Ryan, behind. At her new house, Marissa is putting away her many, many clothes and shoes, while Alex is sipping beer and watching television. Marissa learns that she has run out of space, and will have to learn to live with less shoes. Alex says she has to get to work, and asks Marissa if she will walk her in the rain, which is something she loves. (The tide, the rain; she's so a Pisces.) Marissa's excitement at walking in little drops of water is slightly diminished when Alex tells her that it's garbage day tomorrow, and that rent is due on the first day of the month--and suddenly she sees her paradise has a little more reality than she would have liked. Alex playfully says "No turning back!" and that she bets that Marissa never did anything this crazy before, as Marissa looks a little like she would prefer to be back home with her bagel-cutter.

But Marissa walks Alex to the Bait Shop (with an umbrella! Genius!) and declines to come in, because "the dishes won't wash themselves!" Alex gives her a semi-peck kiss, and goes in, leaving Marissa to looking downcast again, before she spots Ryan, who is conveniently standing on the pier, upset about Lindsay. Marissa goes over to him, worried, putting her umbrella over him, and asking him if he's okay. Marissa puts her hand on his shoulder, and then around him, just to comfort him.

In two weeks: Two new guys arrive, one to tempt Kirsten and one to tempt Julie. Marissa, Seth, Summer and Ryan get stuck in a mall, which means that they have to share tents and spend the night there. Like there isn't any CCTV or anything. Summer questions Marissa about Ryan, who says she thinks about him daily. Ugh. Olivia Wilde is guest starring, but is nowhere to be seen in the preview.
