The
O.C. Episode 211 "The Second Chance" (February
3, 2005) The
Other Storylines
Sandy sneaks into his house, still not telling
Kirsten his old flame Rebecca isn't dead after all. He has
agreed to represent Rebecca in trial, because she actually
didn't set fire to that building years ago, and has been
only been running from the feds because she didn't want
to rat out her friends. Sandy and Rebecca get closer (all
while Kirsten thinks she's dead) and talk about smoking
weed out of an apple. Kirsten eventually finds out, when
she goes over to Sandy's office to "spruce it up"
and discovers Rebecca, who is temporarily sleeping there.
Meanwhile, Seth thinks it will be weird working around Summer,
and they nearly kiss when he comes over to draw her for
the comic book and finds her in a tight spandex superhero
costume. Summer's boyfriend Zach, oblivious to the sexual
undercurrent between his girlfriend and her ex, sends some
of Seth's drawings to Wildstorm ("an unbelievable comic
book company"), and the company invites the trio to
visit them in San Diego together--just when Seth and Summer
had decided that maybe it was best to not spend so much
time together.
In
other news, Ryan tries to get Lindsay to come to dinner
with him, Kirsten, and Caleb, using a very cute Star
Wars metaphor, which Lindsay duly trashes. In desperation,
Kirsten goes over to visit Lindsay (who is playing the oboe,
increasing her levels of cuteness) and gets her to come
have dinner with Papa Caleb. At the dinner table, Caleb
and Lindsay talk about Brahms, which leads to Caleb insulting
Ryan yet again. Ryan starts retaliating to the evil old
man, who then, in perfect timing, collapses from a heart
attack, which is shown in a very cool slow-mo shot with
dramatic music, maybe Brahms.
Of course, this heart attack causes Caleb to see that he
is a mouldy old man who wants a second chance with his daughters,
which leads Lindsay to ask Ryan if they can temporarily
stop seeing each other while she mends her relationship
with Caleb.
The
Alex-Marissa Storyline
The first time we see them in the episode they
are wearing skimpy outfits in Alex's apartment, clearing
up bottles from the previous night's shindig.
ALEX:
Who knew you harbor chicks could throw it down?
MARISSA: Yeah, well, I'm not like the other girls.
They
flirt and giggle, and the innuendo-laded lines and intense
stares continue throughout the episode. When Marissa goes
to take a shower at Alex's apartment--after deciding to
skip school again so Alex can teach her to surf--she strips
off her t-shirt in mid-walk, then turns around clutching
the t-shirt to her barely-covered breasts to ask an open-mouthed
Alex if she can borrow one of her tops.
