  • Fucking: Dreary when it's without art (i.e., when it's with Helena).
  • Sisterhood: If you're the Wilsons, it's powerful. If you're the Ziffs, it's... um, yeah.

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Goddammit: A word for everyone.
  • Hello: A steady recognition of a steady, sure love.
  • The pursuit of happiness: Human nature, and human pain.
  • Rivers: They run deep.

  • Pride: They say it goeth before a fall. Apparently it also goeth with spankings and bad terrycloth shorts.
  • Pandora's Box: Ilene Chaiken stores paper clips in it.
  • Torching: A dangerous hobby.
  • Happiness: Sometimes it comes at a price.

  • Libido: If you follow it, someone will come. Maybe.
  • Baggage screeners: More effective than a cold shower.
  • Sleep: Even sexperts need it now and then.
  • The verge: Where Jenny lives.

  • Limits: What Dana tests and Carmen exceeds.
  • Pediculosis: Another way to say eww.
  • Amazing: What Bette and Tina redefine.
  • Somber: This episode. Cut the recapper some slack, will ya? It was hard to find the funny.

  • A.M. Homes: God. And the only woman I'd ditch both Alice and Bette for. Yeah, you heard me.
  • Topping: It's not just for ice cream.
  • Burr: A prickly prick.
  • Bette: Brilliant.
  • Helena: Hellish.

  • Gamine: The quintessential Jenny.
  • Peoria: The anti-Jenny.
  • Studio visit: A fancy term for foreplay. Almost.
  • Phone-throwing: A common hobby among alpha types.
  • Meat-tagged: How the masses (I include myself among them) see Bette.

Episode 2.06 "Lágrimas de Oro"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Flowers: They're everywhere. I may sneeze.
  • Reticent: A good thing, if you're Jenny.
  • Random lesbians: Shane's hobby.
  • Lesbian Stepford wife: Guess. (You're right: Tonya.)
  • Pregnant: Hot.

Episode 2.05 "Labyrinth"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Lame: The perfect "L" word for the pervy moronic intrusive videocamera storyline.
  • Compunction: The junction of "come home" and "fuck off."
  • Toasts: Confessions disguised as blessings.
  • Helena: Rhymes with snake. It doesn't? Just wait.
  • Forgiveness: What Bette craves, but may not really comprehend.

Episode 2.04 "Lynch Pin"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Lisa: Brilliant. But you can't tell that from this episode. No, I'm not talking about Lisa the Guy — I mean Lisa Cholodenko, the director.
  • Poltergeist: A breathy weird babbling thing that makes random noises at inappropriate times. See below.
  • Mark: Irritating, if he weren't so mind-numbingly stereotypical.
  • Joyce the Lacerating Lawyer: Hereinafter The Nauseator.
  • Bette: I have no words for her hotness — "L" words or otherwise.

Episode 2.03 "Loneliest Number"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Hot: A word that can't even begin to touch Carmen.
  • Misery: Its name is Bette. And it loves company, but company is scared of it.
  • Ton Ton: An unspeakable (and hilarious) horror.
  • House rules: What Shane has. No matter what she says to the contrary.

Episode 2.02 "Lap Dance"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Imagination: What Jenny lacks — like we didn't all know that already.
  • Taking: What Toxic Sludge Tonya does best. Well, that and bullshitting.
  • Walls: Where the writing is.
  • Talking: What lesbians do. And overdo. And again, ad nauseam.
  • Sorry: The hardest word.

Episode 2.01 "Life, Loss, Leaving"

THIS WEEK'S L WORD VOCABULARY:

  • Funny: Attempted suicide. No, I don't really mean that, but as a method of writing a character out of the show, it has its moments.
  • Tiresome: The phase that follows "toxic," apparently.
  • Knitter: What Alice so isn't. Well, depending on the context.
  • Evanesce: What we all wish Jenny would do.
  • S words: Better than L words. At least the S words that start with "strap" and end with "on."
