His
stupid remark finally sheds a little
light on Ashley’s attitude problem. She asks
Spencer, “Do you want that life? Stupid little comments about what you are and how you feel?I
learned to laugh most things off because it
hurts too much to do anything else. ”
I
see what she’s doing. It’s the Chase Them
Away Before They Freak Out and Get Cold Feet technique. It’s a risky
move, but that’s our Ashley.
Spencer,
in true femme fashion, cuts through Ash’s
bullshit and straight to the point. “You know
what? I can’t just be your friend Ashley.
It needs to be more than that or I’m out of
your life. I need to figure out mine.” When
Ashley says nothing in response, Spencer storms
out of the club. I’m not worried, though.
This is all probably leading to a steamy reconciliation.
Later,
Ashley asks Aiden for advice about the whole
Spencer Situation. He asks, “Do you want to
be with her?” Ash says she isn’t sure (yeah,
right) and is worried she will scare her away.
Aiden,
in true femme fashion, cuts through Ash’s
bullshit and straight to the point. “I think
you’re the one that’s afraid. I know from
experience that you’re the one that does the
heartbreaking. Maybe you’re afraid that Spencer’s
the one that could break yours. ”
Ok,
so much for the Dumb Jock stereotype. He’s
totally right.
In
the locker room, Glen and Aiden discuss the
Madison Effect. Aiden confirms that she criticized,
harassed and pressured him constantly when
they were together too. Glen looks only slightly
less miserable after hearing this. On his
way home from school, Glen stumbles across
a little pick-up game with The Fates. Shooting
some no-pressure hoops, he rediscovers his
pure love of the game, and blows his knee
out in the process.
Meanwhile,
Clay arrives at a diner in Vegas
and finds his birth mother, Cecily. (If she
looks familiar to you, it’s because you’re
remember her as Vanessa from The Cosby Show – actress Tempestt Bledsoe).
He
awkwardly tells her some facts of his life,
but what he really wants to talk about is
her—who she is, how she came to be in Nevada,
and how she could give him up as a baby. She
tells him that she was only 15 when she had
him, but he’s disappointed because he thinks
she didn’t even try to keep him. She sees
his success and thinks she made the right
decision, but he thinks maybe it was only
the right decision for her.
Is
it just me, or was she overly harsh with him?
Just like Vanessa, she was pissy and defensive.
When it comes to mother-figures, poor Clay
kind of got the shaft.
