Hex: Recaps: Episode 2.2 (page 4)

Not this again — Roxanne continues to try to trap Jez, but I can't be bothered to recap it. Well, it is sort of funny when she makes up a story about staying with a family who wanted to shag her — including the mother, who was "surprisingly supple for a woman of her age."

Nearly there — Ella wakes Cassie, who's been sleeping in the hexagram. That sounds nice — I think I'll chalk up one of my own. Anyway, Ella says the ritual must take place at midnight, on consecrated ground (thus Jez's church), and that Ella herself will do the deed. Good, because the demon-kid is still playing golden child with Cassie, and doing a very convincing job of it. Thelma (who's gone out to get milk) comes back, and Malachi promptly levitates the milk carton. Cassie begins to wonder whether she can go through with it, but Ella says she must — she's Azazeal's whore.

Thelma: "Don't worry. It's, like, affectionate?"

Ella storms off somewhere. Cassie tells Thelma that she slept with Azazeal. "What, today?!" says Thelma (along with "I knew you would, you slag! Sorry, that was affectionate.") Cassie says a part of her still loves him, and another part still wants him.

Cassie: "I don't expect you to understand: you have to have been there."
Thelma: "Oh, I've been there."

Yeah. In fact, she's still there.

And there's Azazeal: outside, that is; but by the time Thelma calls Cassie to the window to see, Azazeal has gone. Cassie's looking very stressed, so Thelma offers to curl up with her in the hexagram, even though they can't touch. Awww.

The church — Ella's lighting candles and looking stern. She hears noises, and tells whatever it is not to fuck with her.

Oops — Thelma wakes up to the sound of footsteps. She assumes it's Azazeal, but it's Ella, who's not too happy to see that Malachi is no longer in the hexagram.

They conclude that Malachi must have just wandered off, since Azazeal couldn't enter the hexagram. Thelma and Ella set out to find the demon spawn. They hear a noise and hide in a broom closet; Thelma assumes that the noises were only George the porter. But as they wait, George the porter falls between them, dead. This show is developing a sort of redshirt pattern: first Felix, now George. Only instead of a red shirt, the sign of doom is a polite, trusting manner.

So close — The door to Cassie's room creaks open: it's Malachi. But he's having too much fun exploring, so he closes the doors again and toddles off. Cassie thinks for a bit, and then steps out of the hexagram and follows him.

Malachi stops at the top of a staircase; there on the landing is Azazeal. Cassie snatches Malachi up and, seeing Azazeal, runs back to her room. She runs awfully slowly, but I ought to know better than to expect realism at this point.

Azazeal doesn't even run; he just saunters. He sees a pile of blankets and pillows on the floor and assumes Cassie's in there somewhere, but in clearing it all away, he puts himself smack in the middle of the hexagram.

Ella comes back (what timing) and sends Cassie out of the room so she can laugh at poor trapped Azazeal. He rambles on about how he and Cassie are destined to be together. Or he might be reciting his shopping list: I seem to lose my hearing when he speaks.

Ella's room — Cassie's still oohing and ahhing over her golden child and saying he deserves a chance; he might invent penicillin one day. Thelma notes that that's been done. Ella comes back and tells them to hurry up, but Cassie's resisting. Ella insists that the thoughts going through Cassie's mind are not her own; they've been put there, and you can guess by whom. (Well, she says "by who," but I can't tolerate that.)

I want to break free — Azazeal does some sort of stern-faced thing that helps him dissolve the hexagram and step out into the sun. Well, except it's nighttime. Anyway.

The church — Ella is ready to kebab the baby. Cassie's still ready to raise him up to be Alexander Fleming. Azazeal joins the party and sweet-talks Cassie as Ella mumbles some arcana. At the last moment, Cassie falls forward, shielding her son, and meets the dagger.

As Cassie dies, Thelma reaches for her, but Cassie is already off in a shimmer of CGI dust. Thelma mouths "I love you" as Cassie goes.

Azazeal takes his son and marches off.

NEXT WEEK ON HEX: Ella and Thelma set a trap; Ella and Leon get kinky; Cassie and Thelma appear to be dangerously close to kissing.
