A pub — Mephistopheles finds Leon.

Mephistopheles: "Remember me?"
Leon: "You looked a bit better the last time I saw you."
Mephistopheles: "Well, if you'd been on a permanent loop through the nine circles of hell, you wouldn't look too hot either."

This guy is definitely the coolest baddie on the show.

He says he's there to stop Leon making a grave mistake. Well, hurry up then!

Kidnapped — Roxanne's just about ready for bed, but the Succ/incubi Social Club has other ideas. Uh oh.

Oh, the drama — Ella's still dying, and learning that "love isn't a demon sent to snare me."

Ella: "You can try to deny it. It'll get you in the end."
Thelma: "Oh yes. It reaches in and wraps up your heart."
Ella: "But it isn't a bad thing."
Thelma: "No. Well, unless the other person doesn't feel the same."

Or unless the other person gets beheaded by an anointed one.

Ella gets all weepy about never having told Leon how she feels, because he's her perfect fit, body and soul. Oh, come ON. Must I go over this again?

Ella asks Thelma to stay with her because she doesn't want to die alone. She's really not very good at the weepy thing.

The pub — Mephistopheles tells Leon that Malachi wants to bring about the end of days. Leon asks whether Meph is going to fight in the big battle, but Meph says he doesn't know whose side he'd fight on, because they're both as bad as each other — and then also takes off his sunglasses to reveal his scarred-up eyes.

And then Mephistopheles gives a little speech, about how dark the days will be no matter who wins, and about how there's only one thing that truly moves people and makes them better than they are. Oh, fine. Yes, great, love is the answer, all you need is love, love makes the world go around — or was that money? Rufus Wainwright said it best: "you will believe in love, and all that it's s'posed to be, but just until the fish start to smell and you're struck down by a hammer."

Spooky — Malachi and his minions try to scare Roxanne. She does seem a bit scared, and is also possibly still a little amused, but that might just be her general demeanor.

Back for more — Leon comes back just in time to save Ella, or to try to at least. But she has what the Scooby gang referred to as a sucking chest wound. Leon references ER and Star Wars instead, saying they need to cauterise the wound and that a light saber would do the trick. Instead, he uses the specially fortified dagger. Ella doesn't look too sure, and then screams.

Why do we crucify ourselves? — Malachi threatens Roxanne. She's rather serene about it, not knowing that a willing sacrifice is just what Malachi wants. He also sets fire to the school, apparently just for kicks.

Malachi's minions lay Roxanne down on a cross, and Malachi raises a dagger. She screams as he stabs her.

Outside, Leon and Thelma and Ella run, turning to see Medenham in flames. I want Thelma to start channelling Scarlett O'Hara: "As God is my witness, as God is my witness, they're not going to lick me!" Or at least she could sing "I'm Going Home" from Rocky Horror. But I'm just not that lucky.

The next morning, or whenever, Ella and Leon are back to snogging and Thelma's back to worrying about her clothes. And we're back to wondering whether any of it will ever make sense, because all we get to finish out the season is a rock sporting the doodle of Malachi and running red with blood.
