The
cellar Leon tells Thelma that Ella's still
in there somewhere.
Thelma:
"Who's telling you all this?"
Leon: "Archangel Raphael."
Thelma: "Interesting. I played
him in a nativity once."
Leon: "Well, I have a feeling
he's slightly darker in real life."
And
then Thelma's expression gets dark indeed, as Leon reveals
that he has to kill Malachi.
Ella's
room Thelma tries to wake Ella up, but
Ella still can't hear her. So Thelma goes into Ella's
dream. Can I just mention that I'm really not happy about
that thing Thelma's wearing on her head?
In
her dream, Ella is dead. Not a good sign.
Metaphysical
games Mephistopheles and Malachi play
chess and talk about the strong desire in each of us that
controls our very being. I'll tell you what mine is
oh, wait, I already did. See Gillian Anderson above.
Stocking
up Leon has many bottles of St. John's
Wort. It's hilarious that this particular herb is the
defeator of demons, because for the rest of us, it seems
to do absolutely nothing.
Raphael
tries to encourage Leon, but the creak of his leather
coat and the treacle of his accent are too much for me,
so I can't really hear him.
The
library Thelma tells Leon that Ella is
dead in her dreams, which is not on. Leon is sure everything
will be okay when he kills Malachi. Thelma gets really
quiet, and Leon realises that's because Thelma's going
to disappear if Malachi dies. "Bit of a bummer, eh,"
says Thelma. But she knows it's best for everyone: "Well,
it's not like I've got anything to live for, is it?"
Cut
to a shot of Maya in her new corpsey clothes, looking
quite good. She finds Thelma on a swing, and they have
their first lesbian process-y chat, about their lives
(deaths) and what they mean to each other and how complicated
everything is.
Maya
thinks Thelma has someone else.
Thelma:
"You are the only person I'm interested in.
Just scares me, that's all."
Maya: "Okay, now I'm totally
confused."
Thelma: "I don't want to lose
you."
Maya: "Well that's not likely,
is it? I'm not gonna die on ya."
Sigh.
Nothing's sweeter or sadder than star-crossed lesbian
ghost lovers.
The
grounds Roxanne is moping along; she's
been ostracized. The others watch her unsympathetically.
I thought maybe she'd just been on holiday, because she
disappeared without much warning. Like everyone else on
this show.
Suddenly
everything gets a bit weird; Malachi convinces everyone
to stay outside for some "life appreciation"
instead of going inside for Art Appreciation. And then
he offers Ella to Tom. Ella smiles sweetly.
Luckily,
Headmaster David calls them inside before Ella can kiss
Tom. It's almost enough to make me believe in God.
As
they shuffle to class, Leon invites Malachi for a drink
later. A drink of St. John's Wort, perhaps?
Ella's
room Leon rummages around, looking for
the knife of whatever. Thelma asks him whether he's doing
this because he wants Ella back.
Thelma:
"What if you kill him and discover all she
feels is hurt and angry?"
Why
does that sound so universal when she says it?
Despite
the weirdness of everything not to mention her
certain doom Thelma tells Leon where the knife
is.
Plotting
Malachi skips stones as Mephistopheles
growls about how powerful Malachi will become as he feeds
on souls. I. hate. Malachi's. shoes.
