A
party The new girl shows up with a bottle
of something green. I would say it's absinthe, but it
looks more like wheatgrass. Thelma watches as the new
girl walks over to Leon and Roxanne and other boring popular
sorts.
Thelma:
"What do you think her special power is?"
Cassie: "Well, let's hope
it isn't a whip that makes people tell the truth, 'cause
you'd be on your knees in seconds."
Thelma
and I don't disagree.
It
turns out the throat-slitter's name is Ella. She teases
Leon and befriends Roxanne. I hope it's only a prelude
to slitting their throats.
Cassie
finds Felix outside. He starts talking about the universe
and continues to try to flirt.
Inside,
Thelma walks around, watching all the debauchery, and
finally finds Ella, who seems to sense Thelma's presence.
Ella:
"I heard what you said about me earlier. Are
you always that rude?"
Thelma
just gapes as Ella lifts a coke-filled fingernail to her
nose. The camera focuses on the harsh scars around Ella's
left wrist and forearm. Why do I suspect we won't get
the full history anytime soon?
Ella
asks Thelma whether she wants some coke, or is just going
to stand there watching her all evening. Thelma says "No
thanks" and goes. Why do I suspect the tension between
them won't get resolved anytime soon?
Outside,
Felix finally tries to make his move and confesses his
feelings for Cassie. It doesn't go very well. She tries
to let him down gently. He starts to freak out a bit,
crying and calling himself an idiot. He runs off, so Cassie
follows and tries to comfort him. When Felix throws out
an arm to reject her sympathy, the Nephaelim sentry springs
to life and slashes Felix wide open, killing him.
Cassie
fears for her own life, but the Nephaelim is just curious
about her, and trails a long yellow claw down her face
before turning to face Ella and her smirk. Have
I mentioned that Ella wears a long high-collared leather
coat? Probably not, because I was too busy wishing I were
17 again.
Ella
telekinetically wraps a string of lights around the beastie,
electrocuting it and sending it up in flames. It's quite
impressive, and Ella's rather proud of herself.
Cassie,
however, is sobbing over Felix's body. Ella explains that
the Nephaelim thought Felix was going to harm Cassie,
and was only trying to protect her. Thelma shows up and
glares at Ella, and pretends not to be intrigued.
The
next day Thelma tries to comfort Cassie,
telling her that Felix's death is not her fault. Ella
thinks it very well might be Cassie's fault.
Ella:
"You see, Azazeal's been trying to have a son
for a very long time. So far I've managed to stop him.
This time I was too late."
Thelma: "Spare us the Idiot's
Guide to Hell."
Ella: "But I think you need
it. You see, no baby, no Nephaelim; no Nephaelim, no
dead Felix."
Thelma
and Ella start to bicker, but Cassie interrupts and says
she's only interested in one thing: how to stop it all.
Ella has the solution: "We have to kill your child."
I could pretend that the thought disturbs me, but I seem
to be wearing a smirk on my face that's not unlike the
throat-slitter's own sly grin. Save me, Thelma!
NEXT WEEK ON HEX: Ella and Thelma
continue to face off; Malachi learns to levitate; Cassie
is indecisive.
