Later
As Thelma ponders the vending machine
options, Jo the teacher rushes by, still disheveled and
now also frantic. She goes into an office or something;
Thelma follows and watches her take a lot of cash out
of a safe. Thelma hides in Jo's car (apparently forgetting
she's invisible and thus doesn't need to hide) and watches
as Jo goes to buy something from a dodgy-looking guy.
Thelma continues to spy as Jo goes to a... well, let's
just call it a lair Azazeal's lair, of course.
Jo unwraps whatever she's bought and puts it in some milk
yes, some milk for a little boy who's already walking.
Hmm; whose seed might that be?
The
demon spawn sees Thelma hiding behind a pillar. She realizes
she's been spotted and runs, but she's a bit clutzy in
her new boots and falls. Azazeal is suddenly there, staring
down at her in his stern yet wimpy way.
The
pool Cassie is hearing voices; they're
whispering her name. Suddenly Felix shows up. Again? He's
got some valerian for her, to help her sleep. I think
maybe if he could just hang around and talk for a while,
Cassie would nod off and sleep very soundly but
I wouldn't be able to recap it for you, because I'd be
snoring too.
Felix
trudges off. There's an oozy kind of noise, and then the
Nephaelim appears. Cassie isn't really very frightened;
after it leaves, she gets out of the pool and goes looking
for it. Instead she finds Felix or, more importantly,
she beholds Felix's meat and two veg. He promptly covers
them with a shampoo bottle, but the damage has been done,
at least as far as my poor brain and eyes are concerned.
Cassie's
room Thelma is sobbing and muddy. Cassie
helps her clean up a bit, and asks whether something else
is wrong. Thelma confesses all, including the bit about
the baby.
Azazeal's
lair Cassie confronts her ex, and tells
him it wasn't his decision to keep the baby alive. He
insists that she wanted the baby as much as he did, but
she disagrees. She wants to know why he's tormenting her
dreams, and why the Nephaelim is stalking her. Azazeal
says the Nephaelim is just doing its job.
Azazeal
gives Cassie her baby to hold. Azazeal has called him
Malachi ("messenger"), and explains that Malachi
needs steroids because he's growing so quickly
his joints become inflamed. That's what Jo was buying
with all that cash. I hope she pocketed a little of it
to buy herself something mood-enhancing, like maybe a
vibrator.
Cassie
seems to get a little emotional as she holds her son,
and Azazeal decides it's a good time to tell her that
she belongs with them and they can be a proper family.
Oh, "proper" as in psychotic, demonic, possessed,
and homicidal? Just clarifying.
As
Cassie arrives back at school, Felix shows up AGAIN. He's
still trying to flirt, and it's just sad.
The
grounds Thelma and Cassie chat about Malachi,
and how quickly he's grown. Thelma mentions a chicken
in Colorado who got its head chopped off and continued
to live for another 18 months. I'm traumatized by the
image, because I grew up on a farm in Colorado, where
I was once chased by a headless chicken. Don't laugh:
it haunts me to this day! I hate chickens.
The
dining hall Speaking of headless, the
throat-slitter has arrived at Medenham. David the Headmaster
extols the virtues of the place as he helps her go through
the cafeteria line.
As
the throat-slitter walks by Cassie and Thelma's table,
Thelma gushes, "Have you seen the new girl? Eyes
of steel and nipples to match!" The throat-slitter
turns around and winks, much to Thelma and Cassie's surprise.
This
might be a good time to wonder where Thelma's ghostly
girlfriend, Peggy the Egyptologist, has disappeared to.
Oh well; I must confess I like the new girl better.
Back
in Cassie's dorm room, Thelma asks all kinds of questions
about the new girl and Malachi and her morgue-mall clothes.
Cassie says she's too tired for such "conversation."
