Hex
Episode 5 (14 November 2004)
Summary:
- Thelma's
angst continues
-
Cassie gets "fat"
-
Jo teaches Azazeal a lesson
Dark
night – We can see Thelma feeding Peggy (the
other hot lesbian ghost) in front of the fire. They talk
about fantasies--apparently Peggy wanted to be a slave girl
to an Egyptian priestess--and other "un-ladylike"
things. Azazeal not only upset Thelma, but apparently also
the natural order of life. They then duck down onto the
sofa and giggle. Finally, a good beginning to an episode.
Outside,
early morning – Azazeal stares at the house,
crying. I'm glad that for the majority of the scene we can
see the back of his head, so that I can throw things at
my TV screen, hitting it.
Bathroom
– We can see Thelma looking for Cassie, who
is throwing up in the toilet, which I can recently empathize
with, but don't particularly want to see on screen. Back
in the bedroom, Thelma tells her she should see Jo, but
Cassie calls Jo a hypochondriac and asks Thelma to stay
with her. Thelma gets all gooey-eyed and happy. Doomed!
Night
of Lesbian Angst – Thelma watches Cassie
sleep with a lovesick expression on her face.
Toilet
– Cassie is throwing up again, with Thelma
in the cubicle next to her reading the newspaper. Thelma
tells the disbelieving Cassie she needs to do a pregnancy
test.
Dorm
room – Cassie is in denial, and says she
doesn't have tingly breasts (Thelma, and, well, me, laugh
at this revelation.) They wait for the result of the pregnancy
test, with Cassie muttering that it must be Troy's as she
cannot believe that it is Azazeal's, having only slept with
him a couple of days ago. "I'm a ghost, you're a witch,
and he's a fallen angel. Anything could happen." Thelma,
once again, gets the best line, before she is interrupted
by Jo coming in, and Cassie fainting, and eventually spilling
the beans. Or, in this case, the metaphorical babies.
Library
– Having now told Jo that she is pregnant,
Cassie is sitting on the library sofa while Jo makes a doctor's
appointment for her, and asks Cassie about the father--relieved
when Cassie tells her it isn't Troy's. Jo is incredibly
nice: obviously worried about Cassie, but treating her like
an adult.
Jo:
"Have you thought about what you are going to do?"
Cassie: "Drink a bottle of hot cooking
cherry, take a hot bath, and
throw myself down the stairs."
Hallway,
night – Thelma wanders about, looking for
Peggy. When she can't find her, we see her looking in at
Cassie from the doorway, smiling. Cassie, meanwhile, is
having dreams about Azazeal and babies, which are probably
more scary than the "little-girl-who's-about-to-kill-you"
ones. (Where did she go, by the way?)
Dorm
room, morning – Azazeal wakes Cassie up with
a cup of hot ginger tea, and babbles about four wheels and
baby names.
Bathroom
– Cassie is officially pregnant, with a big
bump to show for it.
Thelma:
"Bit of a design flaw, hmm? I'm kind of glad I can't
have them."
Cassie: "Lesbians have kids all
the time these days!"
Thelma: "Dead ones don't."
Thelma
craves liver and onions, which I presume must be sympathy
cravings.
Cassie:
"How did we get into this mess?"
Thelma: "Well, I'm told that when
a man and a women love each other very much…"
Cassie: "… it all ends in
tears."
Thelma: "That's heterosexuality
for you."
Outside
– Thelma and Cassie try inconspicuously to
get into the taxi, but Troy draws up, and then proceeds
to star in The Worst Acting Scene Ever (So Far.) He pleads
with Cassie to agree that they shouldn't have broken up,
while Thelma rolls her eyes. When he sees her bump (which
is, according to Cassie, due to "Christmas binge-eating")
he talks about how she can't get rid of his child. It seems
as though Cassie really is over him--telling him that it
isn't his, and to go away.
Hospital
– Cassie wants to terminate the pregnancy,
while Thelma makes an incredulous sound at the doctor's
statement that "motherhood can be a very rewarding
experience." I'm sure it can be--but how would he know?
Outside
– Thelma compares the doctor to her mother,
the latter of whom never let her win "pass the parcel"
on her birthdays.
Cassie:
"Can we talk about something else?"
Thelma: "Okay. I think Jesus was
a lesbian who loved too much."
After
this rather confusing statement, Thelma goes on to reveal
to Cassie that when Cassie was being a bitch, Thelma called
up a helpline and learned some valuable advice which leads
them to conclude that Thelma is Jesus and Cassie is Judas,
(while Thelma jokingly asks for a kiss, of course).
Night
– Jo gets out of a taxi with Azzy. As we
see Jo leading him to her room, we can see that she is rather
tipsy and giggly. When Azazeal tells her about being a fallen
angel, she--of course--does not believe him.
Azazeal:
"So, Ms Watkins, do any of your students get this
far?"
Jo: "Only the really good-looking
ones."
Azazeal: "What do you teach them?"
Jo: "Obedience."
I
think Azazeal has a bit of a dominatrix complex. Oh well,
Jo is hot. (And then they proceed to kiss. Brilliant.)
Library
– Peggy holds Thelma's hands as she apologizes
for being AWOL the night before, and tells her that she
has made an interesting discovery in the form of a new tablet.
The piece of rock talks about incredibly ugly ("probably
male") soul-eating demons that will be released when
Cassie's baby is born. If the baby isn't born, however,
Thelma won't be able to see Cassie again, to which Thelma
starts crying while Peggy comforts her, saying "You
love her, don't you?" The angst is too much for me
to bear, and I want to see them kissing instead. Ah, doomed
love, how the producers cherish you.
Dorm
room, day – Cassie is scared about the termination,
and Thelma comforts her. Cassie asks if she will be there
to look after her, which makes Thelma go all gooey again.
When Cassie turns back to her computer, however (after Thelma
orders her to "Go back to your emails, and find me
some porn!") we see that Thelma is completely distraught.
Random
part of the school – Cassie knocks on Jo's
door, and Azazeal (or 'Ian', as Jo introduces him) opens
it. Cassie pretends that she was looking for a duster, rather
than confirming her abortion with her teacher. It's uncomfortable,
and as Cassie walks away we can see a mixture of hurt and
anger on her face.
Dorm
room – Cassie packs lacy underwear for the
hospital visit, and Thelma laughs at her silliness. When
Cassie says that they can spend New Years Eve together,
Thelma starts crying. Cassie then gives Thelma her Christmas
present, a picture of them together last Christmas (although,
to point out the obvious, they are practically wearing the
same clothes in the photo as they are in the scene). Thelma
cries from happiness.
Thelma:
"You are very special to me."
Cassie: "You are more than special
to me."
Cassie
leaves, and Thelma sits down to continue to cry.
Hospital
– As Cassie lies in bed, the doctor tells
her that although her pregnancy has accelerated, she can
still have the abortion. As the doctor leaves the hospital,
Azazeal watches him, and then bothers Cassie in her room.
Cassie seems jealous when she asks him why he was "shagging
my teacher." After he has gone, Thelma comes in and
persuades Cassie to go through with it by telling her what
will happen if she has the baby: the release of the Nephelim.
Cassie, however, is more distraught by the fact that Azazeal
used her rather than liked her, and Thelma tells her that
she will find another man with "devilish qualities."
Cassie asks Thelma to stay with her again, and the producers
crank up the angst-levels by having Thelma's hand rest near
Cassie's, but not touching.
Church
– Cassie's doctor is at a Church meeting,
which Azazeal is also attending. As Azzy speaks about the
Virgin Mary and abortion, the doctor looks on, practically
entranced.
Hospital
– A nurse rambles on to Cassie about Christmas
and children, then stops when she realizes how scrooge-like
Cassie might feel. As Cassie is wheeled to the operating
room, Thelma looks on, tearful. Then Thelma is sitting by
Cassie's empty bed, and seems to fade away. But when Cassie
is back in her bed, she calls out for her best friend, and
Thelma comes out from behind the hospital curtain, amazed
that Cassie can still see her. As Thelma tells Cassie the
bad news, we see Azazeal congratulate the doctor over the
newly-born baby, who reminds me of that one in 'The Matrix.'
Definitely the father's genes.
