Anna Torv and Jennifer Jason Leigh to play lovers on “Open”

Say what you want about Glee, but Ryan Murphy is putting lesbian characters on television. His newest pairing will appear in Open, a HBO pilot he’s developing, and the casting is pretty damn amazing. TVLine reports that Anna Torv and Jennifer Jason Leigh will play lovers. More specifically:

Torv will play Windsor, a yoga instructor in a longterm relationship with Holly (Jennifer Jason Leigh), but upon meeting Grace (casting TBD) feels an instant connection.

Looks like that’s where the “openness” comes into play here.

Anna Torv played gay before the BBC original version of Mistresses and more recently starred on Fox’s Fringe. This will be Jennifer Jason Leigh’s first queer role, but she was famously creepy about Bridget Fonda in Single White Female. She recently starred on Revenge and as Mary-Louise Parker‘s on-screen sister on Weeds.

Lauren Gussis is also writing with Ryan Murphy, and she has worked on shows like Dexter, Once Upon a Time and The O.C. so this should be an interesting dynamic. Not many other details are available as of now other than the basic premise which is that it’s a “modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships. Open revolves around five lead characters, including a married couple of thirtysomethings, the husband’s male co-worker and a woman in her 40s who is a yoga professional.”

Looks like we found our yoga instructor, and we approve! Now we’ll be interested to see who is playing third-party.
