Anna Paquin told Zap2It.com that her bisexuality wasn’t a “big secret” before her coming out in April. Well, except to her publicist. Plus pretty much the entire straight world. And a good portion of the gay world, too. But at least it’s not a secret of any kind now.
I’m not someone who endlessly talks about her personal life for no reason, but obviously, as someone who identifies as bisexual, those are issues I really care about — and frankly, I don’t see why everyone doesn’t care about them. So when I was asked to participate in that PSA, it was just an obvious, “Well, of course I will.”
Her sexuality was apparently not a surprise to True Blood creator Alan Ball either. Ball, who is also gay, told Zap2It.com that he knew about her bisexuality before. While he thought her coming out wasn’t “that big a deal,” he was still happy to see her make the announcement openly.
I thought that was really brave, and I say good for her. I like the fact that she doesn’t feel the need to keep that hidden, and she was sort of saying, “This is who I am and I am doing this because I want to make a stand for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, and equal rights for all.”
Anna joined Cyndi Lauper, Elton John, Clay Aiken, Wanda Sykes and other stars in the PSAs for the campaign, part of the True Colors Fund which supports LGBT causes. While the actress is engaged to her True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer, her coming out is no less welcome. The more loud and proud voices, the better.
Anna’s sexy Southern vampire show returns for its third season this Sunday on HBO. The newest preview features Anna taking a trip to, um Sweden and a whole lot of other sexy vampire — and werewolf — things happening all over the place.
Nothing like the power of the freeze frame to make you run to your telephone and order HBO. Why, hello ladies.
So, are you excited for the return of True Blood? Do you see Anna in a whole new light?
