Allison Janney will bring “Sunshine” to ABC

When I showed this picture to Heather Hogan, she asked the question we all ask, again and again: How is Allison Janney not a lesbian?

How, indeed – especially with that haircut. Janney is everything we love: adorable, smart, funny, talented and she rules at “Guitar Hero.”

She also loves women, especially Ellen DeGeneres. Just not that way.

Of course, that doesn’t stop us from wanting to see Allison J. at every possible opportunity. Fortunately, that won’t require going to Broadway, once Matthew Perry’s new show Mr. Sunshine comes to ABC. Janney has signed on to costar in the series.

Mr. Sunshine is the story of a San Diego stadium manager (Perry) who starts to reevaluate his life when he turns 40. Janney plays the deteriorating stadium’s owner, Crystal Cohen.

The show will be something of a reunion for its players. Janney and Perry have worked together several times – when Perry had an extended arc on The West Wing and when Janney played herself on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

Mr. Sunshine also reunites the stars with director Thomas Schlamme, who worked on Friends, West Wing and Studio 60. No word yet on when the pilot starts shooting, but we’ll keep you posted.

We also learned that Janney has a recurring role in the planned Showtime series, Shameless, starring William H. Macy. John Wells, executive producer of West Wing, is at the helm for Shameless – yet another reunion for the-actress-formerly-known-as-C.J. Cregg.

If it were up to me, I’d put Allison Janney in every show on TV. So I’m double excited about two chances to see her in a series. How about you? Are you ready to see Janney on screen again?
