Afternoon Delight: “The Rachel Maddow Show” receives a TCA nom, Gaga plans next tour

Happy Flag Day! And a very happy birthday to horror film director and “Toosday Toons” columnist Stacie Ponder. Also, big happy birthday wishes to Academy Award-winning screenwriter, Diablo Cody! Cody penned the miniscule lesbian scene with Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried in Jennifer’s Body.

Bisexual Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie is on the cover of Allure magazine’s July issue. Fergie shares her “hot-bod secrets” and reveals, “I think people think that I’m pregnant sometimes because my weight fluctuates … My problem is my discipline. I see a Jack in the Box or a Del Taco, and I will impulsively want it. I’m a work in progress in that area … I gain and lose weight everywhere from the thighs up.” If Fergie’s Jack in the Box belly makes her look “pregnant” then I’m the Octomom.

Congratulations to Lena Headey (Imagine Me & You) and the cast of Game of Thrones! The medieval HBO show received three Television Critics Association award nominations; Program of the Year, Outstanding New Program as well as Outstanding Achievement in Drama. The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC) was also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in News and Information. The 27th Annual Television Critics Awards will be presented on August 6. My money’s on Maddow!

The Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) saga continues. Morgan (who now realizes that gay people can make and break his career) reached out to GLAAD and made this statement:

I know how bad bullying can hurt. I was bullied when I was a kid. I’m sorry for what I said. I didn’t mean it. I never want to use my comedy to hurt anyone. My family knew what it was like to feel different. My brother was disabled and I lost my father to AIDS in 1987. My dad wasn’t gay but I also learned about homophobia then because of how people treated people who were sick with that. Parents should support and love their kids no matter what. Gay people deserve the same right to be happy in this country as everyone else. Our laws should support that.

Morgan also agreed to appear in GLAAD’s upcoming PSA campaign “Amplify Your Voice,” to return to Tennessee and personally apologize to audience members who were offended by his remarks and he will sit down with people who have been hurt by anti-gay rejection and violence. I wonder how long Morgan’s walk of shame will last.

If you’re in San Francisco this weekend, strap on your Tevas and head on down to the Dyke March Benefit Book Swap & Anniversary Party! On Friday (June 17) starting at 5:30 p.m., Duboce Park CafĂ© will be hosting a book swap and “community mingle.” There will also be a live performance by Judea Eden at 8 p.m.

Anna Paquin and the cast of True Blood have a very important message for those of you who are suffering from TBW. (True Blood Withdrawal):

Lady Gaga (let’s start calling her Gags) is not going anywhere. Not that I expected her to. Touring is like oxygen to the 25-year old artist who just wrapped her “Monster Ball World Tour” and now she’s planning her 2012 Born This Way Tour. I’m exhausted for her.

Gags told MTV, “I do have plans, it will be at the top of next year but I have to begin rehearsing by the end of this year. That’s what I do. It’s time for another marathon. If you’re running a marathon, and you’re about to cross the finish line, you don’t stop and say ‘Oh, once I cross it, it’s over.’ You run as fast as you can to get there as quickly as you can.”

Comedian Jennie McNulty (Walking Funny With … ) and I have teamed up and will perform this Saturday, June 18 in Huntington Beach, CA. The venue, which caters to an 18 and older audience, opens their doors at 6 p.m., although the show doesn’t start until 7:30 p.m. McNulty and I will also be hanging out after the show if you want to chill with us and pretend to be our friends. To purchase tickets go to www.brownpapertickets.com.

Also on Saturday, out country star Chely Wright will be performing at the Goodale Park in Columbus, Ohio (120 W. Goodale Ave), while rocker Melissa Etheridge performs at 7:30 pm for the Heineken Grandstand Stage at San Diego County Fair (located at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.)

My idol Lily Tomlin will be working her magic all weekend. Tomlin will be performing both Saturday and Sunday night at 8 p.m. in Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. (4500 W. Tropicana Ave. Los Vegas, NV 89103. For tickets call: 702-365-7111). No rest for the weary!

Lesbian/ Bi Video of the Day:

Out musician Kate Cooper and her bandmate Damon Cox comprise the Australian band An Horse. If you want to know how they got their interesting band name follow this link. Check out their song “Camp Out” in the video below. Does Cooper’s voice remind you of a young Tegan and Sara? (I apologize in advance for the 15-second ad that plays before the video and features a man wearing a Speedo.)
