Afternoon Delight: Tegan and Sara cover “Curve,” Hayley Atwell on Hollywood sexism

Good afternoon and happy Monday!

Happy birthday to Stockard Channing, Kelly Hu, Mena Suvari and out comedian Dana Eagle.

And over the weekend Christina Ricci (Monster) celebrated her birth along with Aubrey O’Day, Jennifer Aniston and Sheryl Crow.

I’m a big fan of Disney movies so I was tickled pink to learn that Angelina Jolie will star in Disney’s upcoming film Maleficent. For all you non-fairytale fans, Maleficent is Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis. Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter, “The best thing to find that balance is to do something that is just for children. You know, you find different ways to make things matter. When, for example, you do fun action movies, they are empowering for my daughters.” The only reason I watched Tomb Raider was to be empowered.

This month Curve magazine featured an article about lesbian and bisexual women in the Middle East. If you have an extra minute read “Queer in Palestine” by Maria De La O.

Speaking of Curve, the dynamic duo Tegan and Sara Quin are on the cover of the most recent issue.

The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi is on the cover of Watch magazine.

And Olivia Wilde graces Angeleno‘s February issue.

Captain America actress Hayley Atwell is calling it as she sees it. Atwell spoke out about sexism perpetrated by the BAFTA Rising Star voters.

Atwell said, “There were girls on the longlist and I think it’s really odd that girls haven’t made it where guys have … We’d hope that gender doesn’t really come into it and it’s about the body of work that they produce that year, but it seems that hasn’t been the case.” Sexism in Hollywood? No way!
