Afternoon Delight: Naya Rivera thinks we need more gay characters on TV, Barbara Walters will roast Betty White

Good afternoon!

Happy birthday to songstresses Jessie J, Fergie “Ferg” and Mariah Carey!

At last weekend’s GLAAD Awards Glee‘s Naya Rivera said “We Need More’ Gay Characters On TV.” Hear, hear sister!

The Weinstein Company is refusing the MPAA R-rating of their controversial documentary Bully. It will now be released in theaters as an unrated film. Director Lee Hirsch said, “The small amount of language in the film that’s responsible for the R rating is there because it’s real. It’s what the children who are victims of bullying face on most days. All of our supporters see that, and we’re grateful for the support we’ve received across the board. I know the kids will come, so it’s up to the theaters to let them in.” Will you see Bully?

Barbara Walters has been named the Roastmaster of the upcoming Friars Roast of Betty White. The event will take place on May 16 in Manhattan’s Sheraton Ballroom. (How do I get tickets?) Walters said, “My father was a proud Friar for a great many years, and I am proud to be the Roastmaster for Betty, as she paves the way for all youngsters and adds some sex appeal to this dignified, pillar of society.” White quipped, “Those Friars may think I’m an easy mark, but I have 90 years of comebacks waiting for them.” Oh snap!

Outspoken activist/actress Jane Fonda has been cast as Nancy Reagan in The Butler. Nancy Reagan never looked so good!

Angelina Jolie spoke with EW about her upcoming role as the Sleeping Beauty villainess Maleficent. Jolie said, “I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean she can’t have other [warmer] qualities. You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is. It sounds really crazy to say that there will be something that’s good for young girls in this, because it sounds like you’re saying they should be a villain. [Maleficent] is actually a great person. But she’s not perfect. She’s far from perfect.” Great, now I’m going to be rooting for the bad-guy/girl.

Tonight, out comedian Erin Foley will be co-hosting her weekly show Drunk on Stage at Akbar in Silverlake, CA. The 8 p.m. show will feature Sam Pancake, Nico Santos, Jackie Kashian, Shawn Pelofsky and Foley’s co-host Bruce Daniels.

Lesbian/Bi Photo of the Day!

The tabloids are speculating (again) that bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood married beau Jamie Bell. The rumors started flying when the two actors were spotted wearing rings on their ring fingers. Jewelry can be powerful.
