Afternoon Delight: Meryl Streep covers “Vogue,” a first look at HBO’s “Girls”

Happy birthday country sweetheart Taylor Swift and out producer/screenwriter Paige Bernhardt (3 Way, Cowgirl Up).

Last night actress Rooney Mara looked petite and angelic at The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo world premiere in London.

And good news for American GWTDT fans! Sony has bumped up the film’s release date to Tuesday, December 20.

Comedian/actress Kim Wayans spoke with New York magazine about her first dramatic role in the award winning lesbian film Pariah. Wayans said:

I’ve been wanting to do some dramatic work for a while now but those opportunities just aren’t available for me because people see me as, you know, a wacky comedian and they think that’s all I can do. They were pretty skeptical (about her playing Audrey) but later they revealed to me that they saw one angry black woman after the other, and Dee (Rees) was right at the point where she was gonna rewrite the role because she felt something must be wrong with the role if nobody is getting the fact that this woman is vulnerable. And she said I brought that to the table.

The one and only Meryl Streep graces the cover of Vogue‘s January issue, shot by photographer Annie Leibovitz.

If you’re a fan of screenwriter Diablo Cody (Young Adult, Juno) then check out her interview with The A.V. Club.

Olivia Wilde (House) has joined the cast of Steve Carell‘s new comedy Burt Wonderstone. The film centers on magicians in Las Vegas and also stars Jim Carrey and Boardwalk Empire‘s Steve Buscemi.

Actress Eliza Dushku (Dollhouse) strutted her stuff on the red carpet at the CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute in Los Angeles.

HBO has a new series on the docket called Girls. Created, written, directed and starring Lena Dunham, “the show is a comic look at the assorted humiliations and rare triumphs of a group of girls in their early 20s living in New York.”

Girls premieres April 2012.

Grey’s Anatomy‘s Sara Ramirez is lending her voice to Disney’s first kiddie princess show, Sofia the First. Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter stars a Sofia, Ramirez plays her mother Queen Miranda and Project Runway‘s Tim Gunn voices the Royal Steward named Baileywich. The show, which is aimed for 2 to 7-year-olds (and, apparently, lesbians), premieres on the Disney Channel and Disney Junior in early 2012.
