Out writer Zach Stafford documented his personal account with lesbophobia when his lesbian friends were asked to leave a gay bar in New York City for being, well, lesbians. The bartender, drag queen emcee and patrons ganged up on the group saying, “This is a gay bar! Go home, lesbians! Why do you have to be here? Don’t you people have your own bar?” I have also experienced lesbophobia in New York City. In 2002 I joined a group of my gay male friends for a night of dancing which was cut short when I was told, “You shouldn’t be in here. Lesbians aren’t welcome.” At the time, I was more embarrassed than outraged and my friends put me in a cab and sent me home. Have you ever experienced lesbophobia firsthand?
