This Friday, The Invisible War hits theaters in the U.S. This film is a documentary about the thousands of sexual assaults that take place within the U.S. military every year. The film follows dozens of rape and assault victims (not all of them women) who were attacked by fellow servicemen while on duty. In a very short period of time this groundbreaking documentary has already changed the way the military will deal with rape investigations in the military. After watching the alarming film Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta took action to make policy change and even reached out to one of the film’s executive producers and confirmed that the film was partly responsible for this decision.
The film’s writer and director Kirby Dick told The Wrap, “We made the film to help change policy. We just didn’t think it would happen this soon.”
