Afternoon Delight: Evangeline Lilly joins the cast of “The Hobbit,” Spielberg had Megan Fox fired

Happy 44th birthday to Nicole Kidman! The Australian actress won the 2002 Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal of the legendary bisexual author Virginia Woolf in The Hours. Who says it doesn’t pay to play gay?

Speaking of Virginia Woolf, I’m sure she’s rolling over in her grave right now as director Anna Margarita Albelo prepares to shoot her Woolf inspired film, Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf? Albelo launched a fundraiser page via IndieGoGo aiming to raise $25,000 in 34 days. If you aid this project, there are many benefits that come with your financial contribution. For $10 you are dubbed a “Cub Scout” and will receive an official Vagina Wolf sticker and a shout out on the film’s official Facebook page. For $1000 you can join the “Fallopian Superhighway” and you can go on a date with either The Real L Word‘s Whitney Mixter or The (fake) L Word’s Guinevere Turner, a signed DVD and four tickets to a private screening of the film. And if you have money to burn, become an associate producer for $5000 and get the “Zygote Package.” The “package” includes an associate producer credit on the film, six tickets to a private screening of the film and an exact replica of Turner’s face or breasts in latex. Mixter has also offered up a latex replica of her butt. No, I’m not kidding. I have also been cast in this film, but I’m keeping my body parts to myself.

As Trish mentioned in The Morning Brew, The Ellen DeGeneres Show won three Emmys this year, including Best Writing. (One of the show’s writers is none other than Dance Magic member Daniel Leary.) DeGeneres congratulated her staff via twitter.

Go Magazine recently announced their “100 Women We Love: Class of 2011.” British rapper Lady Sovereign made the list along with Chely Wright, Tegan and Sara and Tellofilms founders (and McManusland producers) Christin Mell and Nicole Valentine.

Lost‘s Evangeline Lilly has joined the cast of Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit. Lilly will play a Woodland Elf named Tauriel. Jackson confirmed that Tauriel would not be a love interest for Legolas played by Orlando Bloom. If Tauriel is looking for a love-interest might I suggest she hook up with Cate Blanchett‘s Galadriel. (Wow, I feel like a dork for knowing Blanchett’s LOTR character name. And, now, I feel like a super dork for referring to the movie as “LOTR.”)

It’s no secret that Megan Fox will not be seen in this summer’s Transformers film. (Fox was replaced by British model Rosie Huntingdon-Whitley.) The Daily Mail is now reporting that the film’s executive producer Steven Spielberg told director Michael Bay to have Fox fired from the franchise after Fox spoke out negatively against Bay.

If you don’t already know, during a 2009 press interview with Wonderland Magazine Fox refereed to Bay as “Hitler.” Fox said, “He’s like Napoleon and he wants to create this insane, infamous mad-man reputation. He wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for but when you get him away from set, and he’s not in director mode, I kind of really enjoy his personality because he’s so awkward, so hopelessly awkward. He has no social skills at all.” After Fox’s comments went viral, Spielberg contacted Bay and said, “Fire her now!” Fox’s representatives have a different take on the situation and told People Magazine, “It was her decision not to return. She wishes the franchise the best.” Either way I’m not seeing Transformers because it’s nothing like the 1986 animated film. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon will hit theaters on June 29.

Last night Miss California, Alyssa Campanell, was crowned Miss USA at the 60th Annual Miss USA Pageant. Congratulations to Campanella, I wish her luck and a successful reign. In my opinion the Miss USA title should have gone to rocker Beth Ditto. Even though she wasn’t actually a contestant, Ditto would have killed in the show’s talent portion (if they still had one) and even designed her own crown!

If you live in New York City join Dot 429 this Friday (June 24) for a Women’s Pride Event. The event is co-hosted by Rose Troche (Wonder Woman) Merryn Johns (editor in chief of Curve magazine) and Aliya Hallim-Byne (the chair of OP.LYNX, the Women’s Network of Out Professionals) and will be held at the Hotel Rivington starting at 8pm. The event promises film, cocktails, photography and desserts. They had me at desserts!

Also in New York City, Vanessa Carlton is performing tonight at the Housing Works at Bookstore CafĂ© and on Wednesday (June 22) Carlton will be jamming out at the Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia.

In other rock-awesomeness news, tonight Brandi Carlile will be performing at the Big Sky Brewery in Missoula, MT at 7 pm.

Drive Angry is available On Demand! Last night in the comfort of my own home I watched Amber Hearda kick some serious ass in the sci-fi action/exploitation film. If you’re looking for a good time and a good laugh, I highly recommend it.

Chicago Cubs co-owner and out lesbian Laura Ricketts added her voice to the “It Gets Better Campaign.” I might have to rethink being a Red Sox fan.
