A former Starbucks manager in New York City is suing the mega-coffee chain for unlawful discrimination, harassment and for being “wrongfully accused of being gay.” Alicia Brooks was arrested for allegedly assaulting a female coworker and then asked to sign a document stating that the two had an “improper” relationship, alluding that the women were in a lesbian relationship. Brooks did not sign the document and insists she is not gay. Brooks claims after the incident she was constantly harassed and asked if she was gay by the Starbucks staff which lead to her termination.

Starbucks is known for their support of the LGBTQ community and a spokesperson issued the following statement:

Starbucks has a long history of promoting equality, inclusion and diversity both in our workplace and in the communities we serve, and we have a zero tolerance policy for discrimination or harassment of any kind.
