Afternoon Delight: A new book of Lady Gaga photos, Drew Barrymore directs Best Coast’s “Our Deal”

Good afternoon!

Happy 32nd birthday to Lost‘s Evangeline Lilly! No, Lilly is not gay but she might want to talk to you on the phone late at night.

And happy birthday to my mother, Diane! My 61-year-old mom birthed two queer daughters and she loves and accepts us exactly as we are.

Hollywood’s current It girl Jennifer Lawrence seems to be popping up everywhere. The Hunger Games actress is starring in Like Crazy alongside Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin. Lawrence is terrific in any role she takes on but I’d like to see her to team up with director Lisa Cholodenko. How about High Art 2: Super Duper High?

Olivia Wilde will be competing against herself at the box office this weekend. Wilde is currently starring in Cowboys & Aliens (I saw it and give it two alien claws down) and this Friday she’ll be playing Ryan Reynolds‘ love interest in the dirty comedy The Change-Up. (If you like s–t humor, you’re in for a treat!) The always-charming Wilde told People magazine that her 9-year-old dog, Paco, has more game than she does. Wilde says, “He’s a great dog, but it’s funny because ever since I mentioned that he was my boyfriend, he gets way more swag than I ever have. I mean, truckloads arrive at the house for him. When he hears a car pull up, he just waits, like he knows it’s for him!” I have a feeling if Wilde publicly announces her home address, truckloads of lesbians will be arriving at her house to see her and only her. Sorry, Paco.

Tonight comedians Erin Foley, Julie Goldman, The Real L Word‘s Stamie Karakasidis and Gina Yashere take the stage at the Hollywood Improv at 8 p.m. I’ll be there and you should, too!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Oprah Winfrey will be the recipient of an honorary Oscar. (Like she needs another award.) Winfrey will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic endeavors. As you may recall, Winfrey received an Oscar nomination for her performance in the 1985 film The Color Purple. Darth Vader’s voice (James Earl Jones) and makeup artist Dick Smith will also be receiving honorary Oscars at the 2012 award ceremony.

Wait, how can Oprah get an Oscar and Annette Bening still not have one? Bening’s performance in The Kids Are All Right was brilliant! The scene in which Bening sings a Joni Mitchell song and then finds Julianne Moore‘s hair all over Mark Ruffalo‘s apartment was heartbreaking. Whatever! I mean, congratulations to Winfrey.

Grand Central Publishing will be releasing a book of never-before-seen photographs of Lady Gaga entitled Lady Gaga. How did they every come up with that name? Gaga and photographer Terry Richardson collaborated on the 350 color and black and white photographs taken during the 10-month period in which Richardson followed the superstar around. Gaga will write the book’s foreword and the book will hit stores November 22. Five bucks says there will be a photo of Gaga on the toilet. Although, I really hope I am wrong about that.

Be sure to tune in for the lesbian wedding tonight on Melissa & Joey. I’m hoping Joey will attend and exclaim “Whoa!”

Attention East Coasters! Comedian Fortune Feimster (Chelsea Lately) will be in your neck of the woods this weekend and her show should not be missed.

Wanda Sykes is heading to Hawaii! On Friday, September 9, the out comedian will be taking the stage at the MACC Castle Theater in Kahului. And on Saturday, September 10, Sykes will be rocking the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu.

Actress, producer and Whip It director Drew Barrymore takes the helm of Best Coast‘s new music video for “Our Deal.” The video has a Romeo and Juliet/West Side Story theme, infused with Grease attire and a Danny Zuko haircut. Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass) stars as the street tough Juilet-esque character. I like Barrymore’s directing style, but what do you think?

On Sunday, August 28, The L Word‘s Mia Kirshner will be hosting “The I Live Here Projects Rocks: Benefit for the Boys of Kachere Juvenile Prison School, Lilongwe, Malawi.” (Say that five times fast.) The rock duo Uh Huh Her has signed on for the benefit and will be performing at the Bootleg Theatre at 8 p.m. You can get tickets here.
