AfterEllen.com’s Letter to Santa

When “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” finally came crashing down on Saturday afternoon, there was a whole lot of talk about how Christmas had come early for the LGBT community. After we realized that Santa was handing out such awesome, powerful gifts this year, we decided we needed to get a letter to him immediately. It’s been a long time since we’ve written a letter to Santa – in our last letter we asked for a Jo/Blair Facts of Life spin-off and new softball mitt – so we consulted ehow.com for help crafting the perfect correspondence.

STEP ONE: Begin your letter “Dear Santa.” (This is called a salutation.)

STEP TWO: Tell him you’ve been very good all year. (He knows this already, but it never hurts to remind him.)

STEP THREE: On a different piece of paper, make a list of presents you want Santa to bring to you.

STEP FOUR: Start with the one or two things you want the most – remember to say “please”; Santa likes children with good manners – then mention others that would be nice but that don’t matter as much.

STEP FIVE: Remind Santa of presents your brothers or sisters might like, especially if you know they’re not writing letters of their own.

STEP SIX: Thank Santa for being so generous.

STEP SEVEN: Write a closing such as “Love” or “Sincerely” and sign your name.

We haven’t sent our letter to Santa just yet. What should we add to our wish list?
