Featured reader of the week:

1.) What video is currently embedded on your profile and why? A poetry performance by Rachel Mckibbens and Marty McConnell of a piece called “Spine.” It’s so fantastic and dirty that it knocks you back on your heels. They are amazing and I love, love, love spoken work, especially when it’s that intense.

2.) When and where have you met a celebrity? On February 22, 2005, I waited seven hours in line at the Barnes & Noble in Union Square to meet Tori Amos. My best friend and I got lost and walked 30-plus blocks in the freezing cold and battled some line jumper,s but I must say it was well worth it. She was charming, funny, and GORGEOUS. She gave us hugs, signed our CDs and held a Q and A. I don’t think I stopped smiling for an entire week.

A few years earlier in 2001, during a very shameful time in my life, a time in which–I must confess– I was mildly obsessed with WWF wrestling and extremely obsessed with the Ninth Wonder of the World, Chyna.

I went to Borders in Smithtown, Long Island and waiting a good five hours or so surrounded by rabid wrestling fans to meet the superstar. While waiting in line I finished 336 pages and witnessed two morons try and climb up the bookshelves to get a better look, almost knocking them over. By the time I got up to her, I my hands were clammy and my mouth was dry. I spoke so fast she asked me to re-spell my name three times and then gave me a hug with her massive arms.

I must say she was so so sweet and actually quite stunning in person (don’t ask me what’s happened now) she was the first celebrity I had ever met. Thankfully, not too long thereafter she left the WWF and with her went my foray into the ridiculous world of wrestling.

3.)What lesbian/bi pop culture character are you most like, and why? I’m not sure if she actually counts but I swear Daria Morgendorffer is my pop culture counterpart. Sarcastic, dry, no nonsense, clever, and introverted with a killer pair of combat boots. That is so me.

But if the character has actually be or play a lesbian, I’d go with Tasha from The L Word. I’m pretty cut and dry sometimes, I sit a little high on my moral high horse, and I will certainly “beat a bitch down.” Plus my roommate and I so mirror Tasha and Alice it borders on disgusting.

4) If we hacked into your DVR, what would we find? I don’t have a DVR, but if you checked the hard drive on my laptop you would find every season of Xena: Warrior Princess, Daria, Battlestar Galactica, The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a lot of lesbian movies, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, and every movie in Oscar contention this year. (Don’t ask me how I got them though).

5) What movie star does your pet most resemble? My cat, Codeine, probably most closely resembled Olivia Wilde because she has these amazing intense and very cool eyes. Now if only I were a witch and could actually turn my cat into Olivia Wilde. Thanks for sharing, GirlAnachronism!
