2013 is already shaping up to be a stellar year for lesbian/bi visibility, so this week we asked our writers to weigh in on which gay entertainment thing they are most excited for this year.
Valerie Anne: Lost Girl! Doccubus sexytimes are the sexiest sexytimes to ever sexytime. (OK, that might be a bit of an exaggeration. I’m just excited is all.) Season 3 looks like it’s going to be badass and sexy as hell.

Lucy Hallowell: The Fosters, J.Lo’s lesbian mom show on ABC Family. I want to see lesbians parenting on my television and, seriously, Teri Polo as a hot cop? Sign me the hell up.
Dana Piccoli: Flashdance the Musical. I’m serious. Welding, ’80s costumes, song and dance. Get me my smelling salts! I’ve already cut all of my sweatshirts for maximum shoulder exposure. It’s touring this spring, and I imagine that it will take a stab at Broadway if the response is good. Technically the storyline isn’t “gay,” but the whole concept is fabulous. Plus, what lesbian did not see Flashdance after The L Word premiered? What a feeling!

Ali Davis: Jodie Foster has a movie coming out, and it looks like she’s gonna be evil in it. I’m just going to go ahead and stake out a seat.
Jill Guccini: I’m excited for the John Crowley adaptation of The Price of Salt with Cate Blanchett and Mia Wasikowska to start filming. Being that it’s just filming this spring, we might not actually see the whole produced thing this year, but still, it’s exciting!
And now that I’ve mentioned a movie starring two white blonde ladies, I’m also really excited (or hopeful, I suppose) to see more diverse lesbians and queer characters up in here, whether on the screen or in books or whatever. I feel like 2012 started a decent trend in this direction, so please, please, let 2013 be the year we actually kick ass at it.
Bridget McManus: I’m excited for the Machete prequel, Machete Kills starring Amber Heard, Lady Gaga and Michelle “Mitchie Likes Sausage” Rodriguez. And yes I’ll be at the theater on opening night.
Dorothy Snarker: I second Lost Girl, because it’s always Boobs O’Clock somewhere on that show. Also this season it will have three confirmed female queer characters: Bo, Lauren and the new Tasmin (four if you consider the Morrigan’s proclivity for equal opportunity evil sexytimes).
Heather Hogan: Paige “the Goddamned Batman” McCullers. Look, I am over the moon about the growing buffet of les/bi characters on our teevees, but for me, it’s all about Paige. Sexy as hell badass bisexual succubus? Love it, but I don’t identify with it. Brilliant, resilient lesbian pediatric surgeon with a heart made of rainbows and a face made of perfection? Love it also, but still don’t identify with it. Whiskey-drinking, bomb-building, lady-lovin’ Riveter? Cannot get enough of it, but she’s not me either. Dream-chasing super-singer, leather-sportin’ vampire, unshakable rescue worker, sardonic mom? Love them, love them, love them, but I don’t see myself in them. But the girl who gets tricked into hating herself for who she is, who only keeps from cutting herself to pieces because she’s too competitive to lose, who accidentally flips a table of cupcakes and purposefully flips a couple of trash cans because love can be so friggin’ confusing? I know that girl. I’ve been that girl. Broken mannequin hands and frantic thunderstorm bike rides and “Don’t tell” and wrong-footed kisses and pinching yourself so hard you bruise when your dreams manifest themselves as reality and the only thing keeping you from looking away is a gentle hand and a command. I just cannot wait to see what she does next.
What are you most excited about this year?
