Out Lesbian Nanna Grundfeltd Wins Finland's "Top Model"
As we blogged about previously, Nanna's sexual orientation was never a secret to viewers, but it became more prominent when she chose the word "homo" (the Finnish word for gay) and "pride" during a photo shoot mid-way through the competition in which the contestants were challenged to embody a word and emotion that best described them.
In a video interview after that episode, Nanna said, "I'm so proud to be gay. I'm so lucky: I'm a woman and like women too! There's nothing better. I thought at first I'd put something more than just "Homo" on the hoodie, like "homo — who cares" but ... It was a strong word and that was needed."
The judges applauded that photo, and many of her others: she frequently placed her near the top of the pack, as she did in this photo for Max Factor cosmetics...

As the winner of The Search for Finland's Top Model, Nanna has secured a modeling contract with Paparazzi Model Management, and will be on the cover of the Finnish Cosmopolitan, in addition to gracing billboards around the country in BonAqua ads.

She starts with yelling I won and how she can not believe that she won and how she'd prepared herself for not winning but she won and she cant believe it. She says she cant describe how she feels and how her mother would be SO proud of her. And tears up. She goes on saying things like "I have such a winner feeling" and how thankful she is for everyone and for everything. Especially for her mother. Then she says she wants to call her brother and thanks him as well. She also says she's done so many crazy things in her life but could never have thought about winning the whole thing. She even says that due to the winning of the competition she is absolutely sure she can keep her moms house w/o a doubt. She's also sure that Riina would have won. And that she's so surprised. But she knows that she had done her best but still couldnt believe it was her photo that showed up on the screen. She is happy to have a new job and happy to leave the old one. She wants to be a role model even though shes a wild child. She just wants people to believe in them selves (bcuz she hasnt and now this happened and she does). She also wants people to quit smoking and be them selves.
She ends the interview by saying "if you want something bad enough, you have to go after it and do your best other wise you'll always think about why you didnt".

Nanna is the only reason I watched the series and since she won, my watching didn't go in vain... Anyway, she's awesome :) and yes, this makes me feel proud to be Finnish.
Emptyinbetween, I haven't heard of Ani Alitalo for a long time and there's been nothing about her in Finnish media lately (at least I haven't noticed anything). And sorry, I don't know about her bisexuality either... But it would be cool if she was bi :)

Sweden (Fucking Åmal) is not Finland. (And no, nor is it Switzlerland, or Swaziland, or or or). And not only is Finnish not at all like Swedish, it is a from a completely separate, non indo-european branch of languages, which includes Hungarian and Estonian. Swedish is more similar to French than it is to Finnish. In fact, English is probably more similar to Romanian than Swedish is to Finnish.

I've hugged her! It was last Saturday, "the main party" of Helsinki Pride. Nanna was near me and some people asked if they could take photos with her. I didn't have a camera but I wanted to do something, she was so closed to me and I didn't want to miss that oppurtunity. So I asked her if I can hug her. She said 'of course' and well, we hugged. :)
