Ellen DeGegeneres Wins Outstanding Talk Show Host at 2008 Daytime Emmys

This weekend at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, Ellen DeGeneres won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Talk Show Host for the fourth year in a row, but lost what would have been her fifth win in the Outstanding Talk Show category to Rachael Ray.

When asked on the red carpet if she would consider following in Oprah Winfrey's steps and refrain from submitting herself for awards in the future, Ellen deadpanned: "I'm not going to take my name out. Oprah has made so many bad choices. Look at her career."

When her name was announced as Outstanding Talk Show Host, Ellen and her fiancée Portia de Rossi celebrated with a kiss.

Taking the stage to accept the prize, DeGeneres expressed her appreciation for the award, saying, "I never take this for granted."

She went on to say: "This has been a crazy year. We've done a lot of crying and a lot of laughing, and I cried all by myself and then people laughed" (referring to the adopted puppy incident last October).

When giving thanks at the end of her acceptance speech, Ellen stated emphatically, "Portia de Rossi, you're spectacular," and ended with, "Life is beautiful!"

Look for an update on Ellen and Portia's wedding plans in this Friday's Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever., and watch this year's Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 21st on ABC — where, if the last few years are any indication, no out lesbians will win anything.

....but I am happy to see that Ellen continues to do well.  It's nice to see at least one lesbian being more than nominated.

Unbelievable that Ellen is 50 already, I mean...I wouldn't mind becoming 50 if I looked the way she does!!!

Great to see Ellen do what other recipients do when they receive their awards -- kiss their spouse/significant other/partner. So glad to see Ellen do the same. And, imagine, no one passed out at the sight of it! Thanks, Ellen, for making us all proud!

I love love love Ellen.  Always have.  And it's so neat to see her so loved & dominating the awards shows with her wins.  It's such an amazing journey that we have witnessed.  I love that there's actually two people in that picture above trying to get a picture of Ellen & Portia kissing on their camera phones.  I'm am also loving Ellen's newish style with the shirts in the scarf/tie....I think I've seen it twice now.  I'm going to try it.  But I don't have the guts to do it at an awards show.  I'll be burgundy dressing it a theater awards thing coming up.  It's so funny to have come so far, but still needing to wear a dress....

Even though I didn't watch the awards show, these photos really move me a lot. They mean so much to me and us. And Ellen looks so awesome.

when you cried about the puppy.  I was angry - really really mad that they took the puppy back!  But, I'm trying to let it go.

The picture of Ellen kissing Portia right in the middle of the crowd while she was receiving a standing ovation makes me smile.
